Explosion Rocks Residential Building in Södertälje, Two Hospitalized
Södertälje, Sweden – An explosion rattled a residential building in the Geneta area last night, leaving extensive damage and two individuals hospitalized. The incident occurred on Sunday at approximately 1 am, waking up residents and causing chaos in the surrounding area.
One resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, suspects that the explosion took place one floor above him. While he narrowly escaped serious injuries, there was significant damage to the stairwell on his floor. Fortunately, the man had installed a safety door, which protected him from harm.
“The blast was intense. I woke up just before 1 am and looked through my peephole, only to find it completely obscured by smoke. I heard people shouting in the stairwell,” he recalled.
The concrete threshold at the front door of his apartment loosened, and the door frame gave way. Additionally, the door sustained minor dents, and there were cracks on both the ceiling and walls.
The residents were swiftly evacuated following the explosion, and the bomb shelter ensured the building’s security. However, they were allowed to return later if they wished. They were required to remain inside their apartments on Monday morning while the police investigated the scene.
The police conducted an on-site investigation, documenting the injuries sustained by the residents at 9 am. “It was a real blast. I’ve decided to leave this house. I’ve lived in the same apartment since 1977, but with explosions and incidents like this, I make quick decisions,” the shaken resident stated.
This is not the first time the affected building has faced a dangerous situation. The man described previous incidents, including an arson and a sofa deliberately set ablaze in the stairwell. However, he believes this recent explosion is the final straw, pushing him to cancel his apartment lease.
Another neighbor, who has lived in the area for 17 years, shared her experience of the frightening blast. “People stood on the balconies and shouted that they couldn’t come out and couldn’t breathe,” she said. Despite the incident, she has no intentions of leaving the area, stating that these types of incidents can happen anywhere.
Meanwhile, outside the affected house, a young girl and an elderly woman spoke to the police. The young girl, dressed in a robe, revealed that her family lives in the building but thankfully experienced no damage or smoke on their floor. She appeared unfazed by the incident, stating, “It feels peaceful. We live in Södertälje, after all. This sort of thing happens all the time.”
