In stations surveyed by the ANP across the country, the average price of ethanol fell 1.63% in the week compared to the previous week

Average hydrous ethanol prices fell in 17 states and the Federal District, rose in five and remained stable in four in the week between July 30th and August 5th. The survey is by the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) compiled by AE-Taxas. In stations surveyed by the ANP throughout the country, the average price of ethanol fell 1.63% in the week compared to the previous week, from R$ 3.68 to R$ 3.62 per liter.

In São Paulo, the main producing and consuming State and with the most evaluated stations, the average quotation fell 2% in the week, from R$ 3.50 to R$ 3.43. The biggest fall, of 2.86%, was registered in Rio de Janeiro, where the liter went from R$ 4.20 to R$ 4.08 in the week. The highest percentage increase in the week occurred in Amapá, where a liter of ethanol, which cost an average of R$5.38, now costs R$5.69 (+5.76%).

The minimum price recorded in the week for ethanol at a gas station was R$ 2.79 per liter in São Paulo. The highest state price, R$6.73, was recorded in Rio Grande do Sul. The lowest state average price, R$ 3.30, was observed in Mato Grosso, while the highest average price was registered in Amapá, with R$ 5.69 per liter.

In the monthly comparison, the average price of biofuel in the country fell 7.89%, from R$ 3.93 to R$ 3.62 per liter. The State with the highest percentage increase in the period was Amapá, with a 5.37% increase in the period, from R$ 5.40 to R$ 5.69 per liter. The biggest fall in the month was observed in Goiás, 11.31%, from R$ 3.89 to R$ 3.45 per liter.

Ethanol became more competitive with gasoline in Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, São Paulo, Goiás, Minas Gerais and the Federal District in the week between July 30th and August 5th. In the rest of the States, it is still more advantageous to supply the car with gasoline.

According to a survey by the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) compiled by AE-Taxas, in the period, in the average of the stations surveyed in the country, ethanol is at a parity of 65.58% compared to gasoline, therefore favorable in comparison with petroleum derivatives. The parity was at 60.11% in Mato Grosso, 69.36% in Mato Grosso do Sul, 64.47% in São Paulo, 64.01% in Goiás, 67.62% in Minas Gerais and 68.45% in DF.

Industry executives observe that ethanol can be competitive even with a parity greater than 70%, depending on the vehicle in which the biofuel is used.
