Sheffield.

Striker Serhou Guirassy led Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart to victory in the last friendly before the start of the competitive game with three goals. The 27-year-old scored in the 8th, 15th and 58th minute of the Swabians’ 3-0 (2-0) win at English Premier League club Sheffield United.

Guirassy was Stuttgart’s top scorer last season and is also one of their greatest hopes for the coming season. Recently, however, there have been repeated rumors about the attacker, whose contract, which runs until June 30, 2026, contains an exit clause.

Striker Deniz Undav, signed midweek from Brighton & Hove Albion, made his debut in the VfB shirt midway through the second half.

Defender Borna Sosa missed the Stuttgart dress rehearsal for the first round game in the DFB Cup against regional league team TSG Balingen next Saturday. The Croatian international was unable to travel to England due to a lack of entry documents, VfB announced shortly before kick-off.

Hoffenheim loses last friendly

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim suffered a defeat in the last friendly. The Kraichgau lost 1-2 (0-0) at Premier League club FC Fulham. On Monday, August 14th, the first-round game in the DFB-Pokal takes place at third division club VfB Lübeck.

Coach Pellegrino Matarazzo’s team missed several chances in the early stages, but then the game flattened out at first. In the second half, Raul Jimenez (52nd minute) gave the hosts the lead, Hoffenheim’s Grischa Prömel equalized just five minutes later. Overall, the hosts were the better team after the break, so Calvin Bassey’s 2-1 win (73′) was deserved. Shortly before, Harry Wilson had missed another chance for Fulham.

Gladbach remains undefeated

Borussia Mönchengladbach ended the pre-season without a defeat. The 2: 2 (2: 2) against the French first division club Montpellier HSC was the sixth test game under new coach Gerardo Seoane, Gladbach did not win only two of them. However, the Seoane team lost a two-goal lead against Montpellier after goals from newcomer Grant-Leon Ranos (20th minute) and Julian Weigl (34th) and had to concede the equalizer before the break.

More bad news reached Seoane at the break: goalkeeper Jonas Omlin complained of a shoulder problem and had to be substituted at half-time. The goalkeeper gave the all-clear to the “kicker” after the game: “It was a precautionary measure. I didn’t want to risk anything today for the coming weeks. Nothing wild, I hope,” said the new Borussia captain.

Bochum with a double test

In the last endurance test before the cup duel in a week at third division Arminia Bielefeld, VfL Bochum recorded a win and a defeat. The Bundesliga club played two friendlies against English Premier League promoted Luton Town, but only won one game.

The first game, in which Kevin Stöger (9th minute) and Takuma Asano (51st) scored to win 2-1 (1-1), was much more meaningful. VfL coach Thomas Letsch played the expected starting eleven for the start of the season in front of 8,400 spectators. Among others, the three newcomers Lukas Daschner, Felix Passlack and Noah Loosli were there, in the second half two more newcomers came on in defenders Bernardo and Matus Bero.
