Former players Bebeto and Mauro Silva were honored by Deportivo La Coruña this Saturday. Idols of the Spanish club, the Brazilians were praised before the friendly match against the sub-20 of Red Bull Bragantino.

Before the start of the game, Mauro Silva and Bebeto entered the pitch to applause from the 16,127 fans present at the Riazor Stadium, home of La Coruña. The players who would compete in the friendly lined up for the passage of the world champions, who, finally, received the club’s gold and diamond insignia.

Bebeto played for La Coruña for four years, from 1992 to 1996. During this period, the striker played 162 games, scored 115 goals and won the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup. Mauro Silva, in turn, stayed even longer at the club, from 1992 to 2005, when he retired from football. In all, there were just under 500 matches and six titles: one Spanish Championshiptwo King’s Cups and three Spanish Super Cups.

When they won the world Cup as in Brazilian Team in 1994 both were at La Coruña. To honor the idols, the club announced last Friday that its second uniform this season will be inspired by the one used by Brazil in winning the tetra. The new shirt also has images of Bebeto and Mauro Silva inside the collar.

Inside the field, the result was not so good for the Brazilians. Against the main team of Deportivo La Coruña, which will play in the Spanish third division this season, the youngsters from Bragantino were defeated by 4-0.
