Title: Russians Flock to Occupied Mariupol for Cheap Property Amid Ongoing Russo-Ukrainian Conflict

Date: March 16, 2023

As the Russia-Ukraine war continues to unfold, Russians are seizing the opportunity to secure affordable apartments in the occupied city of Mariupol. The prospect of a seaside residence has particularly excited many Russians who are now flooding into the area, according to reports by the BBC.

Mariupol, which fell under Russian control in the Spring of 2022 following a brutal battle that claimed thousands of lives, is undergoing a transformation led by President Vladimir Putin. The Kremlin aims to reconstruct the city into a Russian town, complete with Russian road signs and changes to the curriculum in local schools.

The BBC’s report indicates that Russian families are already purchasing properties in Mariupol. Social media platforms, such as VKontakte, have become inundated with inquiries from Russians interested in owning property in the area. Some have sold their homes in other parts of Russia to relocate to this newly accessible territory.

One such individual, Vladimir, who recently sold his home in Murmansk, expressed his excitement about moving to Mariupol with his family and living in an affordable seaside apartment. He firmly believes that the city will become a beautiful place to reside.

However, despite Russia’s claim that Mariupol is now formally part of its territory, reports from Ukrainian officials suggest that resistance remains. Insider’s Tom Porter reveals that Ukrainian resistance fighters successfully poisoned 17 Russian officers recently, resulting in at least two deaths. Such actions serve as a reminder that Ukrainians are still determined to fight against the occupation.

Additionally, reports indicate that Ukrainian civilians opposed to Russian settlement in the area have adopted the letter “Ї,” which is not found in the Russian alphabet, as a symbol of their resistance.

Mariupol continues to be a hotbed of activity, with Russian authorities focusing on transforming the city into a Russian stronghold, while Ukrainian civilians and resistance fighters persist in pushing back against the occupation. The ongoing conflict remains a source of tension and uncertainty for both sides involved.
