The City Council of La Solana suppresses the minutes of silence due to sexist violence

The new municipal corporation of La Solana, a municipality in La Mancha with just over 15,000 inhabitants, has adopted a controversial measure. The new mayoress of the PP, Luisa Márquez, has eliminated the minutes of silence at the beginning of the plenary sessions, including those referring to victims of sexist violence.

The decision has sparked outrage in the opposition. It was precisely the Socialist Party that 12 years ago established that minute of silence as a symbolic gesture at the beginning of each plenary session. The PSOE of La Solana, through a statement, has described as “desolate” and “serious” the measure adopted by the government team. The Socialists also remind the local government that in the same plenary session in which the decision was adopted, the mayoress requested a minute of silence in memory and memory of Miguel Ángel Blanco, which they seconded.

The spokesman for the socialists in La Solana, Eulalio Díaz-Cano, has denounced the “attitude of the PP” and has wanted to make it clear that “the fight against sexist violence should not have a political color” and therefore, “it would have to be condemned for all formations”, something that “unfortunately” from now on “will not happen in this town”.
