Maestro Beppe Vessicchio wins the lawsuit brought against Rai to have the rights to use the music he composed and interpreted for the TV program ‘La Prova del Cuoco’ recognized. The sentence, pronounced yesterday by the Court of Rome, is defined by Nuovo Imaie as “a historic verdict for the future and the protection of the rights of music producers and performers”.
“The sentence – underlines Nuovo Imaie – clearly reaffirmed that even for this type of use it is the duty of the broadcaster to pay the rights due to the Phonogram Producers and Performing Artists”. Therefore – continues Nuovo Imaie – “to maestro Vessicchio, Nuovo Imaie and all the subjects of the supply chain involved who had joined the dispute as a party to the dispute, Rai will have to recognize the rights of use for this type of exploitation as well as for those past”.
“It is a very important sentence – explains the president of Nuovo Imaie, Andrea Miccichè – perhaps among the most relevant for the entire sector of the rights of musicians and producers, which sanctions once and for all the sacrosanct economic right that arises whenever a musical product is being used. In expressing our deepest satisfaction and closeness to maestro Vessicchio, whom we have the honor of representing as a collector of related rights, we also express the hope that Rai – as indicated by this historic sentence – convene us quickly for a working table that will restore the previous rights that belong to the tens of thousands of interpreters that we have the responsibility to protect”.
Satisfaction is also expressed by the president of AFI, Sergio Cerruti: “We are happy and satisfied with a sentence that has rightly been defined as historic. We were the first and always alongside the most complex battles, we swam against the tide towards that longed-for normality which is always too difficult to achieve. Certainly a first real starting point for a rediscovered justice in the music sector to guarantee the dialogue and stability typical of evolved economic systems”.
