In total, there are about 4.2 million citizens in the labor force of the State of Israel (out of about 6.6 million citizens over the age of 15). Of these, about 4.05 million (95.5%) are currently employed, and as mentioned, 193,000 are unemployed, which constitutes 4.5% of the potential labor force.

The Labor Force Survey is the main source of information on the labor force in Israel and is regularly conducted by the Central Bureau of Statistics. In the first half of December 2021, approximately 700,8 persons aged 15 and over were interviewed on a regular basis. In the second half of November 2021, about 900.8 persons aged 15 and over were interviewed on a regular basis. The survey population includes the permanent residents of the State of Israel, tourists and temporary residents staying in Israel for more than one year in a row. The survey allows tracking the development of the labor force, its size and characteristics, the extent of unemployment and more.
