NEW YORK (Reuters) – “Barbie” has surpassed $1 billion at the U.S. and worldwide box office since it opened more than two weeks ago, Warner Bros. Pictures, a unit of Warner Bros. Discovery (NASDAQ:), this Sunday
In a statement, Warner Bros. said the film grossed $459 million in North American theaters and another $572.1 million overseas for a total of $1.0315 billion. The number was confirmed by the media analysis company Comscore.
Directed by Academy Award-nominated writer-director Greta Gerwig and starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken, the film sends the iconic Mattel doll on a real-world adventure.
Ticket sales for “Barbie” rank second this year behind “Super Mario Bros.: The Movie,” which opened in April and took in a total of $1.357 billion at the box office.
