The Sorolla Museum and the Sorolla Museum Foundation are organizing a program of activities to honor the famous painter on the exact day of his death one hundred years ago, August 10, 1923. In Donostia, the exhibition dedicated to the intense artist’s relationship with Gipuzkoa.

At the age of 70, Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida died at his home in Cercedilla (Madrid) as a result of a stroke he suffered while painting in the garden of his house in Madrid, now the Sorolla Museum, on June 17, 1920. One hundred years later of his death, and in commemoration of this event declared an Event of Exceptional Public Interest until December 2024, various tributes will be held both in Madrid and in his native Valencia this Thursday, August 10.

The Sorolla Museum and the Sorolla Museum Foundation organize a floral offering at the tomb of Joaquín Sorolla at the Valencia General Cemetery. At the Sorolla Museum on August 10, admission will be free for all visitors and a floral offering will be held in the gardens before the bust of Sorolla made by Mariano Benlliure.

Likewise, throughout the day there will be a series of micro-concerts by cellist Javier Morillas and a series of special guided tours of the museum and the temporary exhibitions ‘Sorolla is dead! Long live Sorolla!’, and ‘In the sea of ​​Sorolla with Manuel Vicent’. 20 catalogs of both exhibitions will also be raffled among the visitors who come on August 10.

In collaboration with RTVE, TVE will broadcast a special report in Informe Semanal on Saturday, August 5 on La 1; and RNE will broadcast the sound documentary ‘Sorolla, the light of time’ at 6:00 p.m.
