Shooting at Sätra Center Leaves Community on Edge

A shooting incident inside the Sätra Center on Monday evening has left residents shaken and concerned for their safety. According to police reports, a man was shot multiple times and was quickly transported to the hospital by ambulance helicopter. The extent of his injuries remains unclear.

Several witnesses in the area heard the shots and moments of panic ensued. Gerdan Malm, a 67-year-old employee at an LSS accommodation near the scene, described the terrifying moment when she and fellow residents heard the gunfire.

“We were all like, ‘but God, it’s gunshots,’ so I closed the door as quickly as eight because it’s unpleasant,” Malm said. The accommodation is located just a stone’s throw away from Sätra Centrum, and Malm observed as police vehicles rushed up the hill to the crime scene. The incident has left many feeling uneasy, prompting residents to seek solace in watching television to calm their nerves.

This is not the first time the community has experienced a shooting in the area. Malm recalled a previous incident and emphasized the unsettling sound of gunshots echoing through the neighborhood.

Similarly, Linda, a 42-year-old mother who was inside the Ica store with her eleven-year-old son, shared her harrowing experience during the shooting. “We heard seven or eight shots when we were inside the Ica store. We ran with a bunch of other people into the warehouse and hid,” Linda said. For nearly an hour, she and her son anxiously waited in a small room until they received the approval to leave from the police.

Leif Sahi, a politician from the Social Democratic Party (S) who sits on Skärholmen’s district council, expressed his concern and anxiety upon learning about the incident. Sahi, who comes from Iraq, a country with instability, highlighted the tragic nature of such events happening in Sweden.

When asked about whether this incident makes him consider moving, Sahi responded, “Yes, unfortunately. I want to feel safe. It is the second time in a short time that this sort of thing has happened. I think: where will I live? But it is difficult to get an apartment, segregation is created in the area.”

The shooting at Sätra Center has left the community on high alert and has raised concerns about safety and living conditions in the area. As the investigation continues, locals hope that measures will be taken to ensure their safety and restore peace of mind.
