A strange wave of false deaths has shaken the networks on the eve of another new heat wave. After the ‘fake’ death of Fernando Savater, this Monday night brought the false news of the death of Jose Luis Peraleswhose origin is yet to be known.
Dozens of media from around the world rushed to replicate the news, without pointing to any specific cause of death but giving it full credibility, so that the obituaries were written on their web pages for more than an hour. The hundreds of tweets written by people of all kinds, including workers and/or fans of music journalism, did not help either.
It was then that the denial by the artist’s family reached various media outlets, which published the corresponding news of the falseness of his death, triggering another wave, but this time of express corrections and deletions of URLs on the media portals that fell in the trap.
Within a few minutes, Perales himself posted a video on Instagram confirming that he was alive and well.

This is how the singer-songwriter undid the news of his own death, a shameful journalistic chapter that deserves reflection.
