Chennai: The passing of the Delhi Administrative Powers Bill in the Rajya Sabha has been termed as a “black day of democracy” by Chief Minister Stalin. The much anticipated bill, which downgrades the capital Delhi to a municipal corporation, was passed after a heated debate yesterday.

Expressing his discontent in a statement, Chief Minister Stalin said, “Yesterday was the black day of democracy when the Rajya Sabha passed the Delhi Administration Bill, which will downgrade the capital Delhi to a municipal corporation.” He further added, “What else can we say, the day when the fascism of the BJP, that if the opposition party rules, we will destroy even that state? Not only the people of Delhi but the entire Indian population will soon pay the penalty for this conspiracy.”

Chief Minister Stalin also highlighted the ongoing crisis in Manipur, stating, “Manipur has been burning for three months. Unable to extinguish it, people are well aware of BJP’s tactics to destroy Delhi.” These remarks point out his concerns over the BJP’s alleged intentions to undermine the authority of elected Chief Ministers.

The passing of this bill has raised questions about the influence of the Annathurai party, with Chief Minister Stalin criticizing a “slave group” within the Rajya Sabha for approving the bill. He expressed disappointment over the bill being passed, remarking, “This sheds light on how Palaniswami is crawling on the floor as a ‘slave’ on the feet of the BJP, saying ‘I am nobody’s slave’. It says so.”

As the Delhi Administrative Powers Bill takes effect, the capital’s transformation into a municipal corporation raises concerns about the potential impact on the city’s governance and decision-making. Chief Minister Stalin’s strong opposition to the bill reflects the growing tensions between the ruling party and the opposition, further intensifying the political landscape in Delhi.

With this controversial bill now passed, the focus will be on its implementation and the consequences it may have on Delhi’s administration and the political landscape of India as a whole.
