An American bomb dating from the Second World War was discovered a few days ago in a district of Düsseldorf, in western Germany. About 13,000 people have been called to temporarily leave their homes as a safety measure, the city’s fire department said on Monday.
The bomb that weighs a ton was to be defused overnight from Monday to Tuesday. She had been discovered during work in a neighborhood near the zoo, according to the press release from the German firefighters.

Regularly updated bombs
The ground of German cities remains littered with unexploded bombs, 78 years after the end of the Second World War. Explosive devices are regularly unearthed on construction, renovation or archaeological research sites.
In 2017, the discovery in Frankfurt of a 1.4 tonne bomb led to the evacuation of 65,000 people. In December 2021, a World War II bomb exploded on a construction site near Munich train station, injuring four and disrupting rail traffic.
