75-Year-Old Man Travels 8 km Daily by Bicycle to Run His Grocery Store

Madurai, India – In a world where many people expect to earn without breaking a sweat, a 75-year-old man from Madurai sets an inspiring example by cycling 8 km daily to buy the necessary items for his shop. Dharmar, hailing from B. Muthulingapuram village near Beraiyur, has been running a grocery store for the past 57 years and believes that hard work brings growth.

Despite having two sons and a daughter, all of whom are married and living abroad, Dharmar continues to run the shop in the village with his wife. The couple is determined not to depend on their children or others in their old age and aims to help others as much as possible. Dharmar ensures the people of the town have access to quality goods at affordable prices without any profit motive.

Having been riding a bicycle since childhood, Dharmar believes that physical work is key to maintaining good health. “I have never been ill, sick or bedridden for a single day,” he proudly stated. Every morning, he cycles 4 km to buy groceries, often traveling to the distant Periyur. After purchasing the items, he pedals back home, leaving his wife to take care of the shop.

Dharmar’s dedication and commitment to his work have earned him respect and admiration from the community. He is an inspiration to many, proving that age is no barrier for hard work and self-reliance. Despite the challenges, Dharmar’s spirit remains unbroken as he continues to serve his customers with dedication and integrity.

His story serves as a reminder that success and satisfaction can be achieved through honest work and a determined mindset. Dharmar’s efforts not only contribute to his own well-being but also support the local community, creating a positive ripple effect that goes beyond his grocery store.
