Chelsea French striker Christopher Nkunku has undergone knee surgery and will be sidelined for “a long period”, the English club said on Tuesday.
Nkunku “has undergone surgery and will now begin a rehabilitation program with the club’s medical department”, explains Chelsea in its statement, without giving details on the origin of the injury or the period of absence.
According to the British press, Nkunku’s recovery could take up to four months.
After leaving RB Leipzig and signing with the ‘Blues’ in June for more than 60 million euros (R$ 323 million at current exchange rates), the French striker had scored three goals in the London team’s pre-season friendlies.
Chelsea debut in the Premier League next Sunday (13th), against Liverpool, at Stamford Bridge.
