Former child actor known for role on NYPD Blue dies from accidental fentanyl overdose

Los Angeles, CA – Former child star Austin Majors, best known for his role as the young son of Detective Andy Sipowicz on the hit TV show NYPD Blue, has died from an accidental fentanyl overdose. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office released a report on Tuesday stating that Majors’ cause of death was fentanyl toxicity.

Majors, who used his birth surname Setmajer following his acting career, passed away on February 11 in a Los Angeles homeless facility. Fentanyl poisoning was suspected at the time, and the latest report confirms it as the cause of death.

Just weeks before his tragic passing, Majors was photographed for a Los Angeles Daily News article featuring the visit of L.A. Mayor Karen Bass and Jeff Olivet, the executive director of the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness, to the homeless facility where Majors resided.

Majors’ acting career began with his portrayal of young Theo Sipowicz from 1999 to 2004 on NYPD Blue. He went on to make guest appearances on several other TV shows, including According to Jim, American Dad!, Desperate Housewives, An Accidental Christmas (2007), and How I Met Your Mother. He also appeared in numerous television commercials.

In a statement released by Majors’ sister and former child actress Kali Majors-Raglin, Majors was described as a loving, artistic, brilliant, and kind human being. The statement also mentioned his passion for acting and his goal of making people happy through his work. Majors grew up in a small town, enjoying outdoor activities with his family and participating in Boy Scout Troop. He was also an active Eagle Scout and a member of his community. Majors graduated as Salutatorian from high school and went on to graduate from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts with a passion for directing and music producing.

Austin Majors was only 27 years old at the time of his tragic death. The entertainment industry mourns the loss of a talented individual who brought joy to many through his performances.
