The so-called Platform for the Aggrieved of Geroa, which claims to be able to rescue their pension from the EPSV once they retire and not as a monthly income, commemorates this Thursday the fourth anniversary of its creation and intensifies its protests and actions. In this sense, they have resorted to the Basque Government to act as an intermediary to hold a meeting with the Board of Directors of the main Voluntary Social Welfare Entity, according to group sources. From the Basque Executive they have limited themselves to confirming the meeting of several members of the Treasury department with the spokespersons of the aggrieved, who in the municipal campaign had a small improvised meeting with the lehendakari Urkullu in Donostia, which has been continued with this new appointment.
The platform has been knocking on the door of institutions, parties and unions for several months in search of a solution to the conflict. Geroa’s statutes only allow retired workers (mostly from the Gipuzkoa Metal sector) to redeem the benefit provided in one go if they do not exceed 45,120 accumulated euros. The platform claims to be able to modify the rule to have the possibility, if they so wish, of redeeming the entire benefit once and without conditions once they retire, to be able to enjoy as they wish that money that, they emphasize, “is ours”.
Meanwhile, several dozen people summoned by the platform have gathered this Tuesday with their yellow vests in front of the Geroa headquarters in San Sebastián. They have asked the employment EPSV to address the situation with them and criticized the unions, members of the Geroa Board of Directors together with the Adegi employers’ association.
For now, the courts, to which critics have also resorted, have dismissed the demands analyzed, considering that it is the Geroa statutes that set the conditions and not appreciating a lack of information to the associates. Geroa defends its model to differentiate it from other speculative EPSV.
