In Russia, Molotov cocktails are sent to recruiting and military registration offices. In all, around thirty fires have broken out since the end of July. Russian officials suspect Ukraine of being behind these attacks.
The scene takes place in Saint Petersburg (Russia), eight days ago. A man walks past the military recruiting office and throws several Molotov cocktails. The same thing takes place in the east of the country the next day. These acts of vandalism have multiplied throughout Russia. According to the Russian authorities, these are not opponents of the war, but citizens who are victims of blackmail. They all tell the same scenario, once arrested.
Russians suspect Ukraine
On the phone, a mysterious interlocutor claims to have emptied their bank account. He promises to give them the money back if he burns down a public building. The Russian Interior Ministry clarifies: “Sometimes the scammers just threaten them with getting in trouble or even killing their loved ones. Virtually all of these scammers are in Ukraine.” There is no evidence of Ukrainian involvement, although it is not in doubt for Moscow. These fires come as Russia is pleased to have recruited massively in its ranks.
