Khartoum: Sudanese Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdouk has resigned. Hamduk’s resignation comes amid growing popular protests in the country against the military’s takeover. Protests have been raging in the capital, Khartoum, for days, demanding full democratic rule.

The army came out against the agitation and two people were killed in the clash. On October 25, the army overthrew the Hamduk government and seized power.

Hamduk, who was placed under house arrest, was re-elected Prime Minister and agreed to hold elections by July 2023. But people took to the streets against the army’s move. Hamduk was returned as prime minister, but the reins of government remained in the hands of the military chief.
