American goalkeeper Matt Turner has finalized a move from Arsenal to Nottingham Forest, both Premier League clubs confirmed on Wednesday. Turner’s departure from Arsenal comes as the club is reportedly close to signing Brentford goalkeeper David Raya.

Turner, who served as a backup to Aaron Ramsdale at Arsenal, made only seven appearances during his single season with the club. All his appearances were in cup competitions. With his move to Nottingham Forest, Turner aims to secure a more prominent role in the first team as the club prepares for their second season back in the Premier League.

The 29-year-old expressed his excitement about joining Nottingham Forest, stating, “It feels great to be here. It’s something I’m really looking forward to, it’s a great challenge and a great step in my career,” he told the club’s website. Turner also praised the club’s management and facilities, feeling that the move is the right one for him and his family.

However, reports suggest that Nottingham Forest is also in advanced talks to acquire Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson. Henderson, an England international, spent the previous season on loan at Nottingham Forest and made 18 appearances in the Premier League. His potential arrival could further intensify the competition for the starting goalkeeper position.

During his time at Arsenal, Turner managed to impress with four clean sheets in his limited opportunities. Nevertheless, he continued to solidify his position as the preferred goalkeeper for the United States Men’s National Team (USMNT). Turner played a vital role in the USMNT’s journey to the round of 16 at the 2022 World Cup and also featured in the Concacaf Nations League and the Gold Cup this summer.

Matt Turner’s transfer to Nottingham Forest marks a significant development in his career as he seeks to establish himself as a top-tier goalkeeper in the Premier League. Nottingham Forest will hope his arrival bolsters their squad as they aim for a successful campaign in the upcoming season.
