A two-euro ticket to become a billionaire. This Tuesday the American lottery Mega Millions announced that a player won a jackpot of 1.58 billion dollars or 1.44 billion euros. This sum exceeds the previous record for this lottery, a jackpot of 1.537 billion dollars won in 2018, according to the company.
“After 31 draws without a winner, one lucky ticket holder in Florida will celebrate the summer of 2023 with a record jackpot, currently estimated at 1.58 billion,” the lottery wrote in a statement released on Tuesday.
One in 303 million chance
According to the channel ABC News, this amount, if confirmed, will be the third largest jackpot in US lottery history. In November 2022, a player in California had won $2.04 billion in the Powerball lottery.
The lucky winner, who has not been identified, will not receive his reward immediately. He can choose to receive all of his earnings in annual payments spread over 30 years. If he refuses, he will “only” receive 783 million euros all at once.
