Eszter Váczi and Dóri Behumi became nationally known as the singers of Jazz+Az in the late nineties. Although both jazz singers graduated from the jazz department of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, Dóri was a graduate when Eszter began her studies. They met for the first time at the casting of Jazz+Az, founded by Péter Geszti, and quickly became friends after starting to work together. Although the band broke up in 2000, in 2020 and 2021 they reunited for a sold-out concert each at the Papp László Budapest Sportarena and the Tokaj Festival.

On Friday, the premiere of the magical world musical by Péter Geszti, András Monori and István Tasnádi will be held on the main stage of the Szeged Outdoor Games. They appear from time to time in the framework story and in Seherazade’s tale.

We dropped into rehearsals and looked for our place. Our roles do not have a dramaturgical function, but we used to say that we add a piquancy to the performance, we are the spice in this big bowl of couscous

Dóri Behumi told our paper, and after a fleeting smile, she and Eszter added the turmeric at the same time.

We sing and dance. In the story, we are a bit like the constant little characters in cartoons who appear from time to time

– continued Dóri, who will also rap in the production in addition to singing. And Eszter will sing a special song in Arabic.

It’s a reward from life. For me, this performance really resonates with me because I am interested in Arabic studies, which is where I got my second degree. Some time ago I started to deal with Arabic singing. I have an Iraqi friend whose mother tongue is Arabic. He wrote a beautiful love song, I will sing it to the authentic melodies of composer András Monori. This is a fantastic experience for me

Eszter explained.
