Drinking a pint of beer before a game is always possible. But this will no longer be the case when the championship opens at the Allianz Riviera, the stadium of OGC Nice. According to France Bluethe Alpes-Maritimes prefecture issued an order prohibiting the consumption of alcohol.

In practice, it will therefore be impossible to sell or transport alcoholic beverages within the stadium three hours before and two hours after the match.

It should be noted that this decree comes into force this Friday since Nice begins its season this week against Lille. It is therefore prohibited to celebrate an Aiglons goal at home with a drink in hand. The text provides that this measure is put in place for the entire season.

Order valid all season

The consumption, take-out sale and transport of alcoholic beverages are prohibited on the public highway three hours before and two hours after the Aiglons home games. The decree is valid throughout the season.

The prefecture justifies the taking of this decree by explaining that “the consumption of alcoholic beverages leads to risky behavior and promotes serious disturbances to public order”. She is most certainly thinking of incidents, in particular such as the match between Nice and Marseille in 2021.

On August 22, this meeting was interrupted in the 75th minute after a bottle throw on Dimitri Payet, OM midfielder, which sparked a general fight. The Nice club had been sanctioned with two penalty points, one of which was suspended. In September 2022 during the OGC Nice-Cologne European Cup match, supporters clashed in the stands. 32 people were injured and 4 hospitalized.

However, the terraces of bars and restaurants that would be within the scope of application of the decree are not affected.
