Former minister Anderson Torres stated in the Senate Investigation Commission on January 8 that the coup draft found in his house is “fantasy” and that he does not know who wrote the text because he received documents from “various sources.”
Torres was one of the main defenders of the anti-democratic attempts of former President Jair Bolsonaro when he was Minister of Justice, and for approximately eight hours he gave his version about January 8, when there was an attack on the Powers in Brasilia.
The former minister appeared before the ICC with an electronic anklet, one of the conditions imposed by Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes in May for him to leave the Military Police Battalion and go under house arrest.
The coup document was found in the closet of his house during a search carried out by the Federal Police in January. The proposed decree gave Bolsonaro the power to establish the defense state at the headquarters of the TSE (Superior Electoral Court).
“This is fanciful. It never left my house, I did not talk about it with anyone, and it is a document that was ready to go to the trash for disposal,” said the former Justice Minister about the draft.
Torres also affirmed in the ICC that there was a “serious failure” in the execution of the protocol of actions defined by the Secretariat of Public Security of the Federal District, then under his direction, two days before the attacks, on January 6, and that he only traveled to the United States after sending the plan to everyone involved.
