At least nine people are still missing on Thursday after the explosion that occurred the day before in a factory in Sergiev Posad, northeast of Moscow, announced the Russian Investigative Committee, in charge of the investigation. In a statement posted on Telegram, the regional branch of the Investigative Committee said that “60 people have been sought medical help, nine are missing and one woman has died in hospital”.

For its part, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations had indicated, a few minutes earlier, that twelve people were still missing. “Research is continuing,” he said. A strong explosion occurred on Wednesday in a warehouse of pyrotechnic material about fifty kilometers from Moscow, according to regional authorities.

Technical director arrested

A total of 400 people are “involved” in the search, the Ministry of Emergency Situations said on Telegram on Thursday, posting images of the destroyed site. You could see tangled bricks, excavators in action, as well as helmeted rescuers, some accompanied by sniffer dogs. “The investigators carried out searches within the Piro-Ross company, the fire having broken out in (its) warehouse”, confirmed for its part the Russian Investigation Committee. “Thirty-four people were questioned as witnesses” and the company’s technical director was arrested “as a suspect”, the investigative body said.

The regional governor, Andrei Vorobiov, assured Wednesday that the investigators believed that it was not a drone attack, while the Russian capital and its region are regularly targeted by such attacks attributed to Ukraine.
