Former Minister of Justice Anderson Torres

Former Minister of Justice Anderson Torres is due to testify this Thursday (10) to the Parliamentary Inquiry Commission (CPI) of January 8 in the Legislative Chamber of the Federal District to explain the actions of the Public Security Secretariat in anti-democratic acts. The hearing is scheduled for 10 am.

Torres must follow the same line of deposition to the CPMI on the 8th of January in the National Congress, in which he denied the omission of the administration during the attacks in Brasilia. He still repudiated the anti-democratic acts and said he will collaborate with the investigations.

The former minister will still try to take off his image from the former director of the Federal Highway Police Silvinei Vasques, arrested on Wednesday (9) on suspicion of having acted to harm the then candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in the presidential elections of 2022. Anderson Torres must state that he had no participation in blitzes made by the PRF in the Northeast.

The deputies intend to question Torres about yesterday’s PF operation and point out that allies of the former minister himself would have put him on the route of investigations. Anderson Torres is expected to remain silent on these questions.

Jair Bolsonaro’s ally (PL) should also be asked about a spreadsheet showing the cities in the Northeast region where Lula obtained 70% of the votes. The document was found on the cell phone of former PF intelligence director Marília Alencar, who accused Torres of having ordered the data.

On Tuesday (8), Anderson Torres gave testimony to deputies and senators in the National Congress, admitted security breaches, but denied having omitted to the case. He still denied that there was any attempted invasion until January 6, when he left for the United States on a family vacation.

He even called the draft of the coup found in his home “fantastic” and said he never questioned the outcome of the elections.
