The Labor Legislation and Social Security Commission of the Chamber of Deputies approved a minute addressed to the Executive Branch in which it requested that the special unemployment insurance be extended for workers laid off by Acodike and Riogas.
in dialogue with the daily, Gabriel Otero, deputy of the Broad Front (FA), commented that the representatives of all the parties approved the request to extend the insurance. In addition, he pointed out that the commission has already received various delegations involved in the supergas conflict several times and that no other instance of this style is currently scheduled.
As reported to MVD News the deputy of the FA and president of the commission, Daniel Gerhard, between both companies there are still 12 workers of those dismissed in unemployment insurance and if the outsourced ones are counted, that number “doubles”. “We understand that what is specific to this conflict is the intransigence of the companies when it comes to negotiating, this extension of the unemployment insurance seemed necessary to us,” he said.
On the other hand, Otero commented that the FA requested that the special unemployment insurance also be extended for workers laid off by Grupo Bimbo Uruguay after the closure of the Ricard chocolate plant. However, he pointed out that “there was no agreement with the ruling party to include the Ricard workers”, who are “around 50”. According to him, the ruling party’s argument was that “there was still time” to deal with the issue of those fired by Ricard and they agreed to discuss the extension request in September.
