Napoli president and owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has brushed aside the idea that his star striker Victor Osimhen, who is attracting much interest, could leave the reigning Italian champions club.
«Osimhen stays. He has a two-year contract, where should he go?“, affirmed the Neapolitan leader Thursday evening to the Italian television channel Sky Sport. «There are contracts and they are made to be respected. It’s true for both parties of course, it’s a question of bilaterality and as long as it doesn’t lean one way or the other, everything is fine. And with Osimhen, this bilaterality has worked since day one, be calm and serene“, he concluded.
Osimhen, 24, is whetting the appetite of several European leaders and Saudi clubs, which have been very active on the transfer market this summer. The Nigerian, with devastating power and technique, was one of the architects of Napoli’s third league title, the first since 1990. Top scorer in Serie A last season, he scored 25 goals, including that of the coronation on May 4 against Udine (1-1).
Passed by Wolfsburg (2016-18) and Charleroi (2018-19), he joined Naples in 2020 after a season in Lille for 12 million euros. His contract expires in 2025 and Naples is actively negotiating with his agent Roberto Calenda to extend it, in vain so far, despite ten meetings between Calenda and De Laurentiis, the Italian press assures on Friday. The 2023-24 season for Naples, now coached by Frenchman Rudi Garcia, begins on August 19 with a trip to Frosinone.
