Wet Weather and Severe Storms Expected in Southeast Michigan

Friday morning brings cooler and more comfortable temperatures to Southeast Michigan, with a mix of sun and clouds throughout the morning into midday, according to 4Warn Weather. However, wet weather is expected later today, and some of it may be severe.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed most of Southeast Michigan under a “marginal risk” (level 1 of 5) for severe weather later today. There is a chance that multiple rounds of thunderstorms will develop this afternoon, starting around 3 p.m. and lasting through the night. During this time, isolated severe, or near severe, storms are possible. Radar images can be seen in the video forecast provided above.

The main widespread threat will be gusty winds, with isolated hail and a low tornado risk west of US-23. It is important to stay updated on weather conditions throughout the day and take necessary precautions.

Tonight’s sunset is at 8:40 p.m., and most of the wet weather is expected to dissipate by about 10 p.m. However, there may be a sprinkle or two continuing overnight and into early Saturday.

Looking ahead to the weekend, it is expected to be mostly dry. All rain should push out before sunrise on Saturday, with only a slight chance of a passing shower in far southern communities midday. Sunday should be a mostly dry day with a mix of sun and clouds. Temperatures will stay seasonal in the low 80s on both Saturday and Sunday.

However, showers and storms are expected to return on Monday, potentially later in the day according to the latest data. More rain is expected to follow on Tuesday, with highs in the 70s to start the week.

In national news, severe thunderstorms are possible Friday across portions of the mid- and upper Mississippi Valley and lower Missouri Valley. Meanwhile, a dangerous heat wave continues to affect much of the southern tier of the country.
