A video is circulating on social networks in which alleged members of the Los Lobos criminal faction deny responsibility for assassination of Ecuadorian presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio, which took place on Wednesday 9, in the capital, Quito. The video was published on the night of Thursday 10 and, unlike the previous publication, all the members were showing their faces.

On video, one of the alleged members of the faction asks the public “not to be deceived”. With him is a group of men in white T-shirts, who introduce themselves as the real members of the group. They deny the authorship of the crime against the presidential candidate.

“We are Los Lobos”, says one of the men who claim to be members of the Ecuadorian criminal faction. “We don’t cover our faces, nobody speaks for us and we comply with peace. We clarify and repudiate the assassination of the presidential candidate, Mr. Fernando Villavicencio. And we make it clear that we never assassinate government officials or civilians.”

Among the declarations, the alleged leader reveals that other criminal groups want to blame his faction for the attack.

“We clarify that the video circulating on social networks in which a group of people appear with their faces covered, with rifles and pretending to be members of our organization, is totally false”, says the man. “We want the whole country to know: None of these people belong to Los Lobos.”

Suspects are from Colombia, says minister

The announcement was made in a press release by the Ministry of the InteriorJuan Zapata, this morning the 11th. According to him, the suspects of killing Fernando Villavicencio are from Colombia and belong to a criminal group that operates in the streets of the Ecuadorian capital.

The minister also claims that six individuals were detained, with two of the suspects still at the crime scene. A third suspect was killed after an exchange of fire with police in the vicinity of the murder.

security breach

The wife of the murdered candidate claimed that there was a security breach during the rally where the attack took place. In an interview with a local radio, Verónica Saráuz said that the presidential candidate should have left the school where the event took place through the back door.

“Fernando’s security team failed,” said the widow. “The head of logistics, the head of security failed. Fernando had to have left through the back parking lot, as General Carillo had done, with a police escort. Fernando should have been taken out in an armored car, not through Rua Gaspar de Villaroel. That truck was not armored, and they killed him.”

Verónica asked the Ecuadorian people for “courage and courage” so that the crime does not go unpunished. During the campaign, the murdered candidate condemned Ecuador’s criminal factions and said that, if elected, he would take action to repress their activities.
