Tijuana, BC.- The progress so that the waste collectors in Tijuana make their activity a formal job has been difficult, commented the manager of marine waste in wild coast, Rosario Norzagaray Roman.

He specified that the non-existence of a governance scheme in the public administration has prevented these people from detonating the recycling market as a segment of stable employment in the city.

“They are experiencing a slow process, we have taught the procedures, because it also has to do with the collector being interested and losing fear of the administrative issue (taxes and bureaucracy),” he said.

Norzagaray Román affirmed that from the profits that the collectors obtain by delivering the waste in collection centers, they end up with a low margin for the acquisition of raw materials and other additional expenses.

Among them, shared Norzagaray Román, are the areas of Cumbres, Santa Fe, Infonavit Río, Anexa Miramar, Los Laureles, Rancho Las Flores, Lázaro Cárdenas, Buenos Aires Norte, La Presa and El Refugioto name a few.

“In the last 31 months we have recovered 82,000 kilograms, a little more than 37,000 with the retention system in the streams and another 45,000 thanks to the network of recoverers,” he said.
