The 78th edition of the Back to Spainwhich will start next August 26th in Barcelona, will once again become the benchmark sporting event in our country in the connection of sport with public awareness in the recycling practice. To this end, the cycling round, in collaboration with the Ecopilas Foundation, will make available to fans more than 400 stack collectors used at the start and finish lines of its 21 stages.

Ecopilas is also already developing intense institutional work with the more than 40 municipalities that will house the cycling caravan to encourage citizen collaboration. Once the cycling round is over, the environmental foundation will recognize the three municipalities that collect the highest volume of domestic batteries per inhabitant.

Likewise, Ecopilas will distribute more than 10,000 domestic mini collectors for batteries and more than 20,000 gifts among all those citizens who deposit their used batteries in the collectors, rewarding the three who contribute the most.

It should also be noted that the Vuelta a España will be the setting for the celebration, the next September 9, the European Battery Recycling Day, coinciding with the dispute of its fourteenth stage between the French city Sauveterre-de-Béarn and Larra-Belagua in the Navarrese Pyrenees. On this day, instituted in 2015 by the European Association of Collective Battery Systems Eucobat, local and regional authorities will join the recycling gesture and deposit used batteries in authorized containers.

With all these actions, La Vuelta and Ecopilas trust to collect two tons of domestic batteries for recycling, throughout the entire cycle route. Ecopilas is a pioneer in linking sport with awareness and education in recycling habits in our country. The foundation began to develop environmental awareness campaigns at sporting events in 2011, the year of its first collaboration with the Vuelta a España. Since then, and given the excellent public response, each season it expands its collaboration with different sporting events, both amateur and professional and in all kinds of disciplines (cycling, canoeing, football, rugby, sailing and athletics, among others).
