The Donkey Management Project Cooperation Protocol was signed under the auspices of the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment, and the Environmental Protection Department, under the project management of the Tashkent Nature Park and supported by the Erenköy Karpaz Municipality.

According to the statement made by the Ministry, the protocol was prepared with the aim of producing a permanent and sustainable solution suitable for animal welfare regarding stray donkeys in Karpaz.

After the comprehensive and participatory studies to be organized by the Scientific Committee to be formed within the scope of the project, the Donkey Management Plan will be created and implemented.

Karpaz Donkeys Management Plan Cooperation Protocol was signed by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu, Yenierenköy – Dipkarpaz Mayor Hamit Bakırcı and Kemal Basat on behalf of Taşkent Nature Park.

ATAOĞLU: OUR GOAL IS TO FIND A SCIENTIFIC, HUMANISTIC AND PERMANENT SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu noted that the project, carried out within the scope of the Environmental Protection Department, will be realized in a way that will bring profit for all stakeholders according to scientific foundations.

Ataoğlu stated that in order to ensure this, a scientific committee of 11 people will be established, including the Environmental Protection Department, the Veterinary Department, the Municipality, Doğa Park, universities and non-governmental organizations responsible for supervising the operation of the project.

Expressing that their aim is to produce a scientific, humane and permanent solution to the stray donkey problem that has not been solved for years, Ataoğlu thanked everyone who supported the project.

BAKIRCI: AS THE MUNICIPALITY, WE HAVE FULL SUPPORT TO THE PROJECT

Yenierenköy – Dipkarpaz Mayor Hamit Bakırcı also touched upon the troubles caused by the stray donkey problem for the people of the region for years.

Stating that the region needs a final solution to the existing donkey problem, Bakırcı stated that they will provide all kinds of support for the success of this project within the municipality’s possibilities.

BASAT: WIN-WIN-WIN WITH THE PROJECT

Speaking on behalf of Doğa Park, Kemal Basat explained that they have been working to solve the stray donkey problem in the region since 2017 and that they have accumulated knowledge and experience in this regard.

Stating that the signed project is planned for a total of 10 years, including 1 year of preparation, 3 years of implementation and 6 years of management, Basat stated that the aim is to create a ‘Donkey Management Plan’ based on scientific foundations.

At the end of the project, Basat resolved the “existing lose-lose-lose environment”, that is, the victimization of stray donkeys against animal welfare in the region, the nature damage experienced in the Special Environmental Protection Areas in the region due to stray donkeys, and the problems experienced by the local people due to stray donkeys, at the end of the project. He stated that he wanted to turn the situation into a “win-win-win”.
