A few months ago, volunteers from St. Francis Society Animal Rescue in Florida encountered a forlorn cat named Mystic, who unknowingly harbored a hidden secret. Little did they know that love and care would be the key to unlocking the truth.
Mystic was discovered at a local animal shelter as a stray, on the verge of a painful end. His body and face were covered in severe mange, rendering him unable to move freely or even open his eyes. He was effectively blinded and his condition seemed to offer no hope.
Thankfully, members of St. Francis Society Animal Rescue recognized Mystic’s desperate situation and decided to give him a second chance at life. They placed him under the care of Andrea Christian from Turtle Cat Foster, an organization dedicated to raising needy kittens like him.
Despite the heartbreak of his condition, Mystic’s new foster mom saw a fighting spirit within him. “He was shy but loving from the first day we met,” Christian shared with The Dodo. “I immediately understood that his recovery was going to take a bit longer [than most].”
Under Christian’s watchful care, Mystic’s skin condition gradually improved. The stinging scabs covering his body began to retreat, and along with them emerged glimpses of his lovable personality.
The most remarkable secret, however, was yet to be revealed. As the scabs around his face gave way to healthy skin, Mystic was finally able to open his eyes, albeit only a crack at first. It was then that Christian gasped in awe.
Mystic’s eyes were not ordinary. They were of two different colors – one blue and one green. Christian exclaimed, “His two different eye colors were a huge surprise!” This was a result of a rare condition called heterochromia.
If it wasn’t for the intervention and care from Christian and other compassionate volunteers, Mystic’s secret might have remained concealed forever. But instead, it became a symbol of hope along his journey towards healing and recovery.
Over time, Mystic’s playful nature revealed itself, shining brightly after being introduced to a fellow rescue cat named Fuzzy Biscuits. The connection between them was instant, and they formed a special bond. Christian remarked, “It was love at first sight! He snuggled right up to Fuzzy Biscuits, and she immediately started to groom him. It was then that I knew he was going to be the best boy ever.”
Months have passed since Mystic’s rescue, and his remarkable recovery is evidence of the love and care he received. Yet, there is still one aspect of Mystic’s journey that remains incomplete – finding his forever home, where he can share a lifetime of love.
Mystic’s time under Christian’s care is ready to come to a successful end, paving the way for a new chapter in a home of his own. Mystic is eager to start this chapter and optimistic that an adopter may also embrace Fuzzy Biscuits into their family.
“Mystic is the very sweetest cat despite the pain of his past. He loves all of the other animals in our foster home and never once has argued with another cat. Now we call Mystic, Mystical Biscuits, saying he took Fuzzy’s last name,” Christian expressed. “Both are looking for their Forever Together home. We are hoping they will find a Together Forever Family.”
