Ankara. There has been a new development regarding the 7-day screen blackout sentence given to TELE1 by the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) for the remarks of BirGün writer and TELE1 Editor-in-Chief journalist Merdan Yanardag, which were given as reasons for his arrest.
The 7-day screen blackout imposed by RTÜK for the 4 Question 4 Answer program could not come into effect due to the words of TELE1 Editor-in-Chief Merdan Yanardag as the reason for his arrest. Ankara 4th Administrative Court unanimously decided to stay the execution of RTÜK’s suspension of broadcasting sentence against TELE1 TV.
In the 4 Questions 4 Answers program of TELE1 Editor-in-Chief Merdan Yanardag dated June 20, his words that the AKP could initiate a new initiative process with PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan were distorted and circulated on social media. Yanardağ was arrested as part of this investigation. RTÜK gave TELE1 a 7-day screen blackout because of Yanardag’s words. (yenivatan.at)
