An Air Mauritius plane, arriving from Madagascar, landed at Sir Sivsagor Ramgulam International Airport on 1 January. Airport cops discovered the baby while inspecting the plane at a routine customs check. Officials suspected an unusual incident had occurred on the last flight made by the plane after finding blood-stained toilet paper.

They immediately led the baby to a public hospital for treatment. The woman suspected as the boy’s mother, who initially denied the boy was hers, had to undergo a medical examination that confirmed she had just given birth. She was placed under police surveillance at the hospital. The BBC reports that she and the baby are feeling well.

The woman who came from Madagascar to Mauritius through a two-year work permit will be questioned after discharge from the hospital and charged with abandonment of a newborn.
