The environmentalist Andrea González Náder, born in 1987, who was part of the formula of the assassinated Ecuadorian presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio, will take his place in the elections on August 20, the center party Construye reported this Saturday.

“The movement will replace the presidential binomial placing Andrea González as president,” the organization said in a statement.

If the National Electoral Council (CNE) materializes González Nader as a candidate for the Presidency by Construye, there will be two women who are running for the head of state out of a total of eight candidates in contention.

The other woman in the competition is former assembly member Luisa González, candidate of the Citizen Revolution (RC), the movement led by former President Rafael Correa (2007-2017).

González Nader is a political activist and Technological Management Engineer with a Mention in Environment from the Universidad del Pacífico School of Business.

Villavicencio came to describe her as a “young Guayaquilean, passionate about life and nature”, who would accompany him in “this luminous challenge”.

González Nader was the director and founder of EcoVerde, an environmental communication platform.

The environmentalist was also an advisor in Environmental Communication for private and public companies and various NGOs; Director of Projects at Ipomea Collab, and environmental specialist in the Autonomous Decentralized Municipal Government of Guayaquil, according to Bloomberg.

In the 2021 elections, González Nader accompanied Villavicencio in the campaign as a candidate for national assembly and in 2019 she also stood as a candidate for vice-prefect of Guayas for the Unidad Popular party, recalled the El Universo media outlet.

The young woman met the candidate when they met at Gente Buena. “He as a journalist, I as an environmental activist, fighting for the same thing, freedom and the rights of others. We came together for the first time in the 2020-2021 campaign to be national assembly members,” she said in an interview with El Universo .

“He comes from the left, I come without those flags because of my generation, in which it is difficult to find people who classify themselves that way. I was second on the list with him, in the Concertación movement led by César Montúfar. Good People, which is the civil movement to which we both belong and with which we entered Construye. He fights against corruption, I have the banner of sustainable development,” he said.

“My brave Fer, I have no words. You will have your street with your name in Alausí, that and much more. They took our brave president from us. I am devastated. Ecuador does not deserve to lose you like this,” the young woman tweeted, after Villavicencio was assassinated on The last Wednesday.
