France was to be his first official visit as King of the United Kingdom. But the arrival of Charles III in France scheduled for last March had been postponed due to the social conflict over the pension reform. Initially scheduled from March 26 to March 29, this visit had to be postponed because of the mobilization against the pension reform. The decision had been “taken by the French and British governments”had then indicated the Elysée, “in order to be able to welcome His Majesty King Charles III under conditions which correspond to our relationship of friendship”. The presidency then mentioned a reprogramming “as soon as possible”.
A few days before the arrival of the monarch, during the ninth day of mobilization, more than 400 people had been injured, while the town hall of Bordeaux, the third stage of the journey planned by Charles III, had been targeted and set on fire. A tenth day of mobilization is then announced during the monarch’s trip to France.
The Pope also expected in September
The agenda for the month of September therefore promises to be full in terms of official visits. The British sovereign will indeed not be the only one to set foot on French soil. Pope Francis is also expected in France, in Marseilles, at the end of the month, on September 22 and 23.
