The number of corona infections continues to rise sharply in Salzburg. The health authorities registered 513 new cases on Tuesday. A large part of the infections can now be traced back to the new Omikron variant: So far, 1246 Omikron cases have been confirmed in Salzburg, and the variant now accounts for more than 60 percent of new infections, says state statistician Gernot Filipp. The main focus of the Omikron wave is currently in the Pongau, “it’s slowly getting started in Tennengau,” says Filipp.
