Chennai and Suburbs Experience Heavy Rains and Power Cuts

Chennai and its surrounding suburbs have been hit by heavy rains since last night, causing widespread flooding in several areas. The Chennai Meteorological Department previously predicted light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning over certain parts of the city, but the downpour has exceeded expectations.

Areas including Guindy, Eakatuthangal, Ashok Nagar, Kodambakkam, Ampathur, Porur, Aavadi, Poovindavalli, Tirumullaivayal, Pattabram, Korattur, and Sembarambakkam have been experiencing continuous rainfall, resulting in waterlogged roads and low-lying regions. Residents have been advised to remain cautious and take necessary precautions.

Even as Chennai Central, Egmore, Chepakkam, Beach Road, Koyambedu, Mylapore, Taramani, Barimuna, Chepakkam, Villivakkam, Purasaivakkam, and Sethupattu are seeing widespread showers, the rain seems to have subsided at a few locations since 6 am. However, the Chennai Meteorological Department warns that heavy rainfall is expected to continue in Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram, and Chengalpattu districts for the next three hours.

Apart from the inconvenience caused by heavy rainfall, residents in Thiruporur, Kelambakkam, Mamallapuram, Kovalam, and Muttukkadu areas of Chengalpattu district have also been grappling with power cuts due to the intense rains. This has further added to the difficulties faced by residents in these regions.

Authorities are working round the clock to address the situation and ensure the safety of residents. Efforts are being made to clear waterlogged areas and restore power supply as soon as possible. Residents are advised to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and adhere to any instructions issued by local authorities.

The Chennai Meteorological Department will continue to monitor the weather conditions closely and issue updates as necessary. It is crucial for residents to stay informed and take necessary precautions to stay safe during this period of heavy rainfall.
