Burglars broke into the home of an elderly couple aged 79 and 80 in Alto de Pinheiros, in the west zone of São Paulo capitalin the early hours of Saturday the 12th. They took R$20,000 from the victims, in addition to jewelry, watches, cell phones, a notebook and two pistols registered in the elderly man’s name.

According to the Secretary of Public Security of São Paulo (SSP), the elderly couple and their granddaughter were sleeping when they were surprised by three robbers armed with an object similar to a knife. The robbery took place around 2 am.

The suspects tied the victims’ hands and stayed in the property for a few hours before fleeing. Military police officers were triggered and, upon arriving at the scene, found the victims.

“Exams were requested from the Institute of Criminalistics (IC), and the case was registered as a robbery of the residence in the 14th DP”, informed the SSP. There is still no information about the identity of the trio.

The frequency of robberies and the violence used by criminals in the occurrences once again concerned residents of Pinheiros. Cases have been marked by the participation of false couriers, with the use of firearms. In July, for example, attention was drawn to an approach that ended with the victim being chased and shot in the head.

According to the Public Security Secretariat of São Paulo, there was a 6.7% increase in robberies registered in the first half of this year, compared to the same period last year.

The data take into account only crimes registered at the 14th Police Station, which serves the region. Cases went from 1,592 in the first six months of 2022 to 1,699 in the same period this year.
