The tourist ate a sandwich vegetarian €7.50, equivalent to R$40.10. He asked for the food to be cut in half so he could share it with a friend, as he explained to the newspaper. New York Post.
The man did not complain about being charged extra when paying at the restaurant, but he did post a negative review on the TripAdvisor travel tip site.
“Unbelievable, but true”, wrote the tourist, in the caption of the photo. The list of items charged includes a sandwich, a soda, water, espresso and the “split fee”.

The tourist gave only “one star” to the Italian restaurant, below the average rating of “four and a half stars” that the establishment has. Because of the repercussions of the story, the TripAdvisor had to suspend site reviews.
“Additional requests have a cost,” said Bar Pace owner Cristina Biacchi. “We had to use two plates instead of one, and the time to wash them is doubled. It wasn’t just a simple toasted sandwich, there were chips inside too. It took us time to cut it in two.”

The owner also used as an argument the fact that the tourist did not complain about the charge for sharing the sandwich at the time of payment. According to the program’s website Small Businesses & Big BusinessesCristina said she would have removed the fee if the client had complained.
