The 18-year-old Englishman has signed a contract until 2028 with the Skyblues.

Young Manchester City defender Rico Lewis, 18, has extended his contract with the Blues by signing for the next five seasons until 2028, the English champions announced on Tuesday. Trained at the club where he arrived at the age of eight, the right-hander made 23 appearances for City last season.

Holder last Friday at the opening of the Premier League (3-0 victory against Burnley), he revealed himself last season by becoming at 17 years and 346 days the youngest scorer in the Champions League for his first tenure in C1. By scoring a goal against Sevilla, he broke the record for precociousness held by Frenchman Karim Benzema.

«It was an incredible year for me and now signing this contract is a dream come true (…) As a City fan, this is the only place I wanted to beLewis told the club’s website.

The Mancunian club’s football director, Txiki Begiristain, was delighted with the extension of this “really smart footballer, already a mature and reliable member of the team. He absorbs every piece of information Pep gives him, which is special for a player his age».
