The Swedes lost in the semi-finals of the World Cup against Spain (2-1).
Peter Gerhardsson (Sweden coach, after the 2-1 defeat in the Women’s World Cup semi-final against Spain): «There are so many emotions now… We played against an excellent Spanish team which bothered us more than the Japanese (2-1 victory in the quarterfinals). We made some tactical mistakes maybe in the first half, but in the second half I feel like we were back in control. Physically, we competed. It’s difficult to analyze the meeting on the fly. (…) Everyone feels sadness, and a huge disappointment. When we equalized, we felt such joy and relief, to be able to go into extra time. But a minute later, it was quite the opposite. On Saturday, we will be ready for third place. (…) It will be necessary to check the physical state of each one. We will try to have the best team for the last match. (…) I hope that Spain will win (the title), but we will see. They are an excellent team, with their high pressing and very technical game.»
