A banal altercation that almost turned into a tragedy. The impatience of a resident of Mantes-la-Jolie (Yvelines) led to the greatest fear of a ripeur, a waste collection agent from the company Sotrema, led by the Greater Paris Seine and Oise urban community (GPSEO ). Unheard of for this 45-year-old company.

As revealed by our colleagues from Mantes Actu, this Tuesday morning, around 7:15 a.m. when a team of 3 garbage collectors were picking up garbage cans in rue Émile Réaubourg, near the Jean-Rostand high school, a motorist in a hurry left his home. Immobilized behind the dump truck, he gets angry with the employees on duty and the tone rises quickly.

“He would have said ‘I’m going to smoke you’ to one of the garbage collectors, then he went back to his house, he took a weapon, he went down and he fired, indicates the mayor (DVD) Raphaël Cognet. It’s total madness! We’re on someone who goes from normal frustration when slowed down and rushed, to grabbing a gun and shooting. The cause is distressingly banal. »

The bullet was not lethal but the garbage collectors remain shocked

The weapon in question is a shotgun, according to a source familiar with the matter. This type of caliber is often used to shoot small steel balls at pigeons. The garbage collector, targeted in the head, escaped with a slight injury on the right side.

He also remained conscious throughout the intervention. Came out of the Mantes-la-Jolie hospital in the afternoon with a simple bandage, he could be heard by the investigators in stride. The doctors granted him a few days of total incapacity for work (ITT) to allow him to recover from the emotional shock. If he had taken the projectile in the eye or the ear, or if it had been a real bullet, the consequences could have been much more serious.

Be that as it may, such an act remains particularly shocking. The shooter was arrested at the scene and taken into custody. He did not seem under the influence of alcohol or narcotics according to the first elements collected. An investigation is opened and entrusted to the Mantes-la-Jolie police station.

“We have altercations daily but it never goes beyond that, reports Sébastien Lavancier, the president of the company Sotrema, also a community advisor for GPSEO and mayor of Follainville-Dennemont. It’s already a tough job, we often have people threatening to run over the skids and we’ve already had accidents. But there, the person went to get a weapon! The crew and the victim are all very shocked. »

Garbage collection is expected to resume as normal on Wednesday.
