57 Coahuila companies fined for not complying with environmental regulations

In five years, sanctions for a total of 2.66 million pesos have been reported; Southeast region concentrates two out of three fines

In a period of five years, 57 companies have been sanctioned by the Environmental Protection Agency (PROPAEC) for not complying with environmental regulations.

These fines add up to a total of 2 million 666 thousand 376 pesos, according to information from the environmental attorney.

Two fines were filed in the municipality of Torreón. One of them to Cemex for one million pesos for not submitting an environmental impact authorization.

In the case of Saltillo, 19 companies were fined, including Saint-Gobain México, for 40,000 pesos for not presenting authorization regarding environmental impact.

Ramos Arizpe was another of the municipalities where private initiative was also sanctioned, adding 16 companies. DeAcero was one of them, with a fine of 100,000 pesos for not submitting the environmental impact log.

Another of the companies that stands out in the list of fines is Explosivos de México installed in Cuatrociénegas. Two fines for 33,000 pesos were registered for “not presenting logs of records of special handling waste in a timely manner.”

This office was created in 2009 as a decentralized body of the Ministry of the Environment.

According to the creation decree, it has the objective of preventing, restoring and protecting natural resources, ecosystems and the environment through compliance with the state’s environmental legislation.

The Environmental Protection Attorney’s Office is empowered to impose fines and corrective measures on natural and legal persons who fail to comply with environmental regulations.

Although PROPAEC has service offices in Saltillo, it conducts reviews when complaints are received.
