Lula greeting Arthur Lira

The President of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), spoke this Tuesday (15) about his positive relationship with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), emphasizing that both maintain a regular communication channel through telephone. However, the parliamentarian also underlined the relevance of adjustments in the government’s ministerial structure as a means of strengthening the Executive’s support in the Chamber.

“The Presidency of the Chamber has an excellent relationship with the Presidency of the Republic, we have to have this relationship, we have this relationship, but it is far from guided by this participation (in ministries). We are facilitators for matters to move forward, the more base the government has, the easier my job, the easier the government’s. I can’t root against it, I have to root for it. Now, it is the government that has to build it in its time”, he commented.

Although there is no formal meeting scheduled between Lira and Lula at the moment, communication between them remains fluid and constant. The task of appointing new ministers to the government team faces significant challenges, with discussions around figures such as André Fufuca (PP) and Silvio Costa Filho (Republicans) being considered for specific ministerial positions.

Within this scenario, divergences are present regarding the portfolios desired by different political parties. While the Republican party expresses interest in the Ministry of Sports, the PP seeks to occupy the Ministry of Social Development.

“It is the famous problem of coalition governments. The government was elected, it did not elect a majority in Congress and it has to make that majority in an organized way”, pointed out the president of the Chamber.

Lira criticizes Haddad

Arthur Lira expressed dissatisfaction with the statements made by the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad (PT-SP). The minister had highlighted the “great power” of the Chamber, advising it to avoid underestimating the other instances of the Legislative and Executive branches.

In response, Lira urged the government to take a more cautious approach in order to avoid hasty actions that could spark controversy. The mayor also highlighted that Haddad’s statement was not well received by members of the parliamentary body and political leaders.

“We were surprised. I think it was inappropriate, maybe an excessive relaxation of the minister in an interview. In the House, as an institution, as well as the Senate, they always work harmoniously on these (economic) issues. There is no mismatch regarding this, ”he concluded.
