Off-Duty Law Enforcement Officer Shot and Wounded by Police on Fontana Golf Course

FONTANA, Calif. – An off-duty law enforcement officer was shot and wounded by police on a golf course in Fontana on Tuesday afternoon. The suspect was allegedly armed with two handguns during the incident.

Authorities initially responded to a shots fired call at a residence located in the 16000 block of Colonial Drive. Witnesses reported that the man who had fired shots inside the home left the scene with two handguns. Later, he was discovered near the Sierra Lakes Golf Course.

“Myesha Dowe, a neighbor, expressed her shock, stating that incidents like these rarely occur in their quiet neighborhood. ”When I came out, he had just walked over to the golf course and you hear the gunshots. I’m in awe because over here nothing like that happens,” Dowe said.

Police confronted the suspect on the golf course, and at some point, shots were fired by officers. The suspect, whose name has not been released, sustained at least one gunshot wound and was transported to a hospital. His current condition is unknown at this time.

It remains unclear if the suspect fired back at the officers or what events led up to the shooting. More details have not been immediately provided by the authorities.

Footage from AIR7 HD revealed that the police shooting occurred near a clubhouse on the golf course.

Neighbors have identified the suspect as a law enforcement officer who helps watch over the neighborhood. According to friends, he was reportedly dealing with some form of mental issue.

Fortunately, no police officers were injured during the incident.

The investigation is ongoing as law enforcement agencies work to gather more information about the motive behind the shooting and the events that took place leading up to it.
