Animal nutrition is a business segment that maintains its positive trend in Ecuador, thanks to the boost registered by the production of shrimp, poultry, cattle, pork and other farm animals.

An example of this is the official launch of Milkiwean, a nutritional solution for pigs in their initial stage, and ChickCare, feed for birds in their first four days of life.

These products are part of the Trouw Nutrition portfolio, a company founded in the Netherlands belonging to the Nutreco group, which for more than 90 years has been a leader in animal nutrition. His focus is precision nutrition.

The presentation was given at the LifeStart conference program, an event organized by the company with the aim of imparting knowledge to improve the zootechnical results of animals by investing in the early stages of life, optimizing their future performance.

If chicks and piglets receive the correct nutrition during the first weeks of life, it will have a profound and lasting effect on their health and ability to grow to their full genetic potential.

For pigs, Trouw Nutrition introduced Milkiwean, a feeding program that gives pigs the best possible start through four different and customizable feeding stages depending on the situation and objectives of each farm.

In addition, the company develops specialized products that provide highly digestible nutritional resources in the diet of piglets.

Compared to a standard medicated diet, Milkiwean results in a -3.22 percent mortality rate and accelerates piglet growth by 3 percent.

For broiler poultry farms, ChickCare, the early feeding program for 0-4 day old chicks, was introduced.

There is often a delay in chick access to feed and drinking water. This negatively affects them, since the longer the chicks take to receive their first food and have access to water, the lower their growth rate and the higher the mortality rate during the first days.

ChickCare is based on three main pillars, nutritional requirements according to physiological age, mineral nutrition, use of functional proteins, which allows laying the foundations for the development of healthy and high-performance chicks even in the face of challenges.

Trouw Nutrition has five research centers, 12 validation farms around the world and is present in more than 105 countries including Latin America.
